Make your own Power Paste

If you've read my blog about my favorite herbs, spices, and a few other things (check it out HERE), then you have learned the incredible benefits of turmeric (when combined with a healthy fat and high ratio of black pepper). Chances are if you have stiff joints or have suffered from acute arthritis, you've likely heard that taking a potent turmeric supplement is beneficial. Taking a quality turmeric supplement is great, but I find I get more bang for my buck when I make my own from ingredients I already have on hand. I was given the following recipe by my Naturopath, to offset this cost. Bonus-I always have these ingredients on hand (usually staining my countertops bright yellow...oooops). This paste keeps for two weeks in the fridge. Disclaimer: it does sorta taste a wee bit like dirt, so if that's not your thing I won't be offended.


Black Pepper Turmeric Paste

-1/2 cup turmeric powder

-1 cup water (+ 1 cup extra, in case more is needed)

-1/3 cup raw coconut oil, flaxseed oil, or extra virgin olive oil

-2-3tsp fresh ground black pepper


Method

1) Place turmeric and water in pan, stir over gentle heat until a thick paste is formed (approx. 7-10 min, you may need to add additional water along the way)

2) Add fresh pepper and oil and the end of cooking

3) Stir well (a whisk is ideal) to incorporate the oil and allow to cool


Keeps for 2 weeks in the refrigerator
